Timeline of the Schismatic War
Imperium Helladis – Hellas Empire of the South. A Demihuman nation of Mundus Magicus natives, the Hellas Empire utilizes large-scale summoning magic and the world’s sacred God Beasts in warfare.

Confederatus Mesembrianus – Mesembrian Confederation of the North. A loose alliance of several satellite states, including the Kingdom of Vespertatia, the Mesembrian Senate is based in the world’s largest city, Megalomesembria. Many of the Mesembrian states are predominantly human.

Regna Vespertatia – The Kingdom of Vespertatia, a small nation sandwiched between the Hellas Empire and the Mesembrian Federation. Its capital city is Ostia, a fount of magical power as well as the artistic and cultural capital of the Mundus Magicus. Ruled by the King of Vespertatia, at the time of the Schismatic War the crown princess was Arika Anarchia Entheophysia. Her younger sister, Asuna Vesperina Theotanasia Entheophysia, is the inheritor of the Royal Line’s inherent Magic Cancel ability.

Regna Scholastica Ariadne -- A country of scholars in the Northeast. Ariadne, though famous for its noncombative and entirely neutral politics, joins the final battle against Kosmo Entelekheia by the efforts of Queen Arika Vespertatia and Seras, a member of the Knights of Ariadne.

Ala Rubra – A group of mercenaries and soldiers headed by Nagi Springfield, the Thousand Master, and initially consisting of Springfield, Konoe Eishun, Filius Zect, and Albireo Imma. Originally frontier scouts for the Mesembrian Federation, Ala Rubra and Springfield in particular were instrumental in engineering an unequivocal cease-fire between elements of the Mesembrian Senate, Arika Vespertatia, and the third Imperial Princess of Hellas, Theodora.

Flow of Events

Border disputes between Mesembria and Hellas, specifically over the border of Vespertatia, grow heated. Hellas invades, putting Mesembria on the defensive and requiring Ala Rubra to begin fighting skirmishes in Vespertatia.

Jack Rakan, a bounty hunter, attempts to kill Nagi Springfield and fails. The two part amicably, and Rakan joins Ala Rubra at an unspecified later time.

The destruction of a major supply chain for Mesembria causes panic, and in a last-ditch effort to turn the tide, Ala Rubra pushes from Argyve to the front lines and routs the Hellas Empire’s forces in the battle that cements their reputation as the ‘saviors of the world’.

Gateau Vandenberg and his apprentice, Takahata T. Takamichi, join Ala Rubra.

Vandenberg and Takahata uncover evidence of corruption in the highest levels of both the Empire and the Federation. The secret organization known as Kosmo Entelekheia is manipulating events on both fronts, ostensibly to turn a profit from arms dealing.

Elements of the Mesembrian Senate, led by Senator McGill, approach Ala Rubra to serve as bodyguards for Princess Arika Vespertatia, the Twilight Princess and heir apparent to the throne of Vespertatia, while she attempts to secure evidence of Kosmo Entelekheia’s involvement in the warring nations and negotiate peace with the assistance of the Hellas Empire’s third Imperial Princess, Theodora.

Nagi Springfield serves as Princess Arika’s personal bodyguard in Megalomesembria while the more covert members of Ala Rubra investigate the Senate’s connections to Kosmo Entelekheia.

An attack by Kosmo Entelekheia on Princess Arika allows Nagi Springfield to secure evidence that the Megalomesembrian Consul, second only to the Governor-General, is a member of the secret society.

A meeting called between Senator McGill and Ala Rubra to discuss plans for the evidence is shattered when Springfield reveals a white-haired young man posing as McGill, having assassinated the Senator. The young man, Primus, uses a voice mimicry spell to claim that Ala Rubra has assassinated Senator McGill, then destroys the meeting place with a large-yield stone nova spell.

Ala Rubra are branded as traitors. Evading capture by Mesembrian and Hellanic soldiers, they uncover the truth of Kosmo Entelekheia’s plot – to use Twilight Princess Asuna’s amazingly powerful innate Magic Cancel to destroy the Mundus Magicus. Backed by the Mage of the Beginning and with control over the King of Vespertatia, Kosmo Entelekheia is opposed only by Ala Rubra.

Princess Arika is arrested and held in a cell at the Noctis Labyrinthus. Ala Rubra enacts a jailbreak and brings Princess Arika to their base on Olympus Mons, where they meet with Imperial Princess Theodora of the Hellas Empire.

A coup is enacted by Princess Arika and Ala Rubra, removing the King from power and installing Princess Arika as the Queen of Vespertatia. Over a period of six months, Ala Rubra fights back against Kosmo Entelekheia on battlefields across the Mundus Magicus.

Nagi Springfield kills the Mage of the Beginning. Filius Zect is killed in battle. However, the ritual to return the world to nothing has already been completed; the members of Ala Rubra, severely wounded, are joined by warships of both the Mesembrian Federation and the Hellas Empire in sealing the area.

The death of the Mage of the Beginning and the dissolution of Kosmo Entelekheia are made public, and the war officially ends.

Hailed as heroes, Ala Rubra and Queen Arika Vespertatia are the guests of honor of a huge ball held in the Royal Family’s villa in Ostia. However, this is a pretense; the sealing away of Asuna’s Magic Cancel in the final stages of Kosmo Entelekheia’s plot has drained magic away from an area of 50km radius around the Royal Villa.

Evacuations are undertaken as the capital of Vespertatia, the floating city of Ostia, falls. Less than three percent of the population is lost due to Queen Arika Vespertatia’s planning and foresight.

The Megalomesembrian Senate uses the fall of Ostia to declare Queen Arika Vespertatia unfit to rule. She is stripped of her power and imprisoned within the Noctis Labyrinthus, to be executed in two years’ time.

Nagi Springfield rescues Arika from the Noctis Labyrinthus, and declares his love for her. Springfield and Arika flee Mesembria as Ala Rubra dissolves; the Mesembrian Senate claims that the execution occurred unhindered. The members of Ala Rubra remain legendary folk heroes.

Jack Rakan returns to bounty-hunting, spending much of his time on the frontier. Konoe Eishun returns to the Mundus Vetus to become the head of the Kansai Magic Association; he fathers Konoe Konoka. At an unspecified later date, Kurt Gödel infiltrates the Megalomesembrian Senate to weed out those who had conspired against Queen Arika. Seras later becomes the Grandmaster of the Ariadne Knights. Jean-Luc Ricardo becomes a Senator of Megalomesembria.

The son of Nagi and Arika Springfield, Negi Springfield, is born in Wales in the Mundus Vetus. He is given into the care of his cousin, Nekane Springfield.

Nagi Springfield is accosted in Istanbul by Secondus, the reincarnation of Primus. He vanishes from both worlds. Fate Averruncus, Tertium, later claims to Negi Springfield that Secondus and Springfield ‘defeated each other’. Gateau Vandenberg is killed in Istanbul. Takahata T. Takamichi travels to Mahora Gakuen with Kagurazaka Asuna, the former Twilight Princess of Vespertatia, to raise her as a normal girl. Albireo Imma, injured in Istanbul, comes with him and assumes the post of Librarian of Library Island, living under the World Tree on Mahora's campus.
